Design House Stockholm Basket Rug

Basket Rug by Design House Stockholm is a striking testament to craftsmanship, designed by veteran Swedish designer Lena Bergström. Entirely handmade, the rug is created using a special hand-tufting technique, with threads worked in different directions to build a rich, three-dimensional surface. Several shades of thread are layered together to create a subtle lustre, while the surface is then carefully hand-cut into a graphic, trompe l'oeil pattern that pays homage to traditional Swedish handicrafts such as birch bark baskets and rucksacks. The result is a striking play of sharp angles and soft transitions, a kind of shadow play that shifts between illusion and reality depending on the light and viewing angle.

Basket Rug is available in Beige, Yellow Ochre, and Green, and comes in four sizes: 180x180 cm, 185x240 cm, 245x245 cm, and 245x300 cm, allowing it to suit a range of interiors from cosy living rooms to larger, more open spaces.

Crafted from 100% wool with a cotton backing, the rug is produced in India and stands roughly 2 cm high, offering both softness underfoot and durability over time. To keep it looking its best, we recommend regular vacuuming to remove particles from the wool, and gentle spot cleaning with a clean cloth and lukewarm water when needed, avoiding excessive soaking. For deeper cleaning, a qualified rug specialist is advised, using a flat wash and flat dry method.
