Design House Stockholm Level Rug

Designed by Lena Bergström for Design House Stockholm, the Level Rug is a striking exercise in optical illusion. Its hand-tufted construction creates a genuine trompe l'oeil effect, transforming what appears to be two overlapping rugs into a single, seamlessly flat surface. The layered look is achieved by tufting the wool in two different directions, enhancing both visual depth and tactile richness while keeping the surface smooth and entirely trip-safe.

A simplified, more geometric interpretation of Bergström's Basket Rug, Level features a pointillistic mix of wool strands in varying tones, lending the design a subtle vibrancy and depth as it catches the light. The rug is available in Beige, Yellow Ochre, and Green, each offering a delicate, natural palette that adapts easily to a wide range of interiors.

Crafted from 100% hand-tufted wool with a cotton backing, Level is produced in India by a family-owned manufacturer committed to sustainable practices, including on-site water filtration and reuse, responsible material disposal, and locally sourced heating for the coloring process. The workshop also supports the economic independence of young women in the local community, adding a meaningful story to every piece.

Level is offered in two sizes, 200x300 cm and 250x350 cm, with a thickness of 2 cm, making it a substantial yet versatile addition to living rooms, offices, hallways, or bedside spaces. Its accentuated edge lends a finished, considered look wherever it is placed. To maintain its quality, regular vacuuming is recommended, and spot cleaning should be done gently with a clean cloth and lukewarm water; professional cleaning is advised for deeper care.
