Gubi MR01 Initial Chair

The Gubi MR01 Initial Chair represents a masterclass in contemporary design, born from Danish designer Mathias Steen Rasmussen's vision of creating a meditation-inspired lounge chair that seamlessly blends craftsmanship, comfort, and sustainability. This striking debut piece embodies a philosophy of honest design that prioritizes both form and function.

Constructed with meticulous attention to detail, the MR01 features a beautifully crafted solid American walnut frame finished with natural oil, creating a warm, inviting aesthetic. The open triangle structure is assembled without a single screw, demonstrating Rasmussen's commitment to traditional woodworking techniques. The seat and backrest are hand-woven from 90 meters of natural linen cord, contributing to the chair's distinctive lightness and visual elegance while allowing for optimal airflow.

This versatile chair adapts effortlessly to seasonal changes. The rope construction naturally promotes ventilation during warmer months, while the addition of a blanket or sheepskin transforms it into a cozy retreat for winter comfort. An included bouclé wool-covered pillow provides additional support for extended sitting sessions across multiple positions.

The MR01 Initial Chair's design flexibility makes it equally at home as a solitary statement piece in a residential setting or arranged in pairs and clusters within hospitality environments. Its timeless simplicity and durable materials ensure lasting appeal and longevity, reflecting Rasmussen's core design philosophy. The combination of natural materials and thoughtful engineering creates a chair that offers both visual sophistication and genuine comfort for years to come.
