Gubi MR01 Initial Outdoor Lounge Chair

The Gubi MR01 Initial Outdoor Lounge Chair represents a masterclass in design that seamlessly transitions from interior to exterior spaces. Created by acclaimed designer Mathias Steen Rasmussen, this sculptural lounge chair combines artistic vision with meticulous craftsmanship, proving that exceptional design thrives in any environment.

Constructed from FSC®-certified iroko wood, this outdoor edition maintains the same geometric elegance as its indoor counterpart while gaining the durability necessary for outdoor living. Iroko's natural resilience makes it ideally suited to Rasmussen's distinctive low-slung silhouette, preserving the chair's strong visual presence through seasons of exposure to the elements.

What truly sets the MR01 Initial apart is its construction methodology. Rather than relying on screws, Rasmussen employed traditional cabinetmaking techniques, utilizing wedged mortise and tenon joints to attach five cross bars to open-triangle side pieces. This approach creates a structurally transparent form that reveals the artisanal craftsmanship from every viewing angle, while generating an enchanting interplay of light and shadow as it sits in the sun.

The rope seat and backrest are crafted from custom-made high-performance polyester, engineered specifically for outdoor durability. This material is waterproof for poolside placement, UV-resistant to prevent fading and degradation, and features an anti-deformation core that resists stretching over time. The result is a lounge chair that combines sculptural beauty with practical longevity, making it an investment in both comfort and design excellence.
