Gubi Silk Lantern Floor Lamp

The Silk Lantern Floor Lamp is a refined lighting design by Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen, brought into production by GUBI for the very first time. Originally designed in 1951 and presented at the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition, the piece was never manufactured until now, making its arrival a rare opportunity to bring a long-lost piece of Danish design history into contemporary interiors.

Conceived across floor, pendant, and wall versions, the Silk Lantern carries a consistent material logic through each scale. The floor lamp's cylindrical shade is crafted from 100% natural silk, diffusing light into a soft, intimate gradient of brightness and shadow. Framing the textile above and below are rings of FSC®-certified walnut veneer (FSC® C176589), lending warmth and craftsmanship to the design, while a lacquered steel structure provides definition and gives the lamp a delicate, floating appearance.

The design draws on Japanese-inspired lightness fused with Danish modern clarity, reflecting Larsen and Bender Madsen's sensitivity to proportion, material, and the emotional quality of light.
