Designed by Mikko Kärkkäinen and crafted in Finland, the Tunto L 40 Pendant Lamp brings together Scandinavian design sensibility and advanced lighting technology. This 1720 mm version is finished in black stained oak, showcasing the natural grain and character of solid wood while offering a refined, contemporary presence above any table or gathering space. As a natural material, the wood may display subtle variations in pattern and tone, and its hue can evolve gracefully over time.

At its core, the L 40 features advanced microprism and honeycomb lens optics, delivering soft, low-glare illumination directed downward. With a color temperature of 2700 K, 3000 K or 4000 K and a color rendering index of Ra 93, this pendant ensures crisp, true-to-life light quality suited for both everyday use and design-focused interiors. The LED light source offers an impressive lifespan of 50,000 hours, backed by an Unified Glare Rating below 19 for exceptional visual comfort.

Control is made effortless through the optional Casambi (Bluetooth) system, a wireless 2-wire setup requiring only active and neutral connections at the ceiling outlet. Dimming is continuous and can be managed via smartphone, tablet, or the Tunto EnOcean switch, offering flexible, cable-free operation.

Measuring 1720 mm in length, with a canopy height of 35 mm, width of 220 mm, and depth of 110 mm, the pendant integrates a slim 40 x 40 mm wood profile. It includes a 2 m suspension and 3 m power cable, both of which can be shortened during installation. Built to Class II safety standards with an IP20 rating, this fixture is intended for indoor use and should be installed by qualified personnel.

Which optic should I choose?
Microprism — diffuses the light for the softest, lowest-glare result; the usual choice above desks and workstations.
Honeycomb — shields the LED so the fitting reads dark from normal viewing angles, with tighter beam control; suits open-plan offices and hospitality.
Lenses — the most directional option, giving crisp, focused light; ideal over dining tables and kitchen islands.
