Vitra Miniatures Collection Plywood Elephant

Discover the charm and history of the Vitra Miniature Collection, featuring the iconic Plywood Elephant, a pioneering creation by Charles and Ray Eames. Crafted in the early 1940s, this exquisite piece showcases the innovative method developed by the Eameses to mold plywood into three-dimensional shapes. Originally among the most complex of their early plywood designs, the Elephant stands out with its tight angles and sophisticated curves, embodying the peak of plywood technology.

This limited Collector's Edition breathes new life into a design that, due to its complexity, never saw mass production. Only two original prototypes exist, one of which was displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York during 1945-46. In 2007, Vitra commenced the first commercial production of this legendary design, offering a unique opportunity for collectors and design aficionados to own a piece of history intertwined with playful design and technical mastery.
